My Latest Obsession

I’ve been really neglecting this blog, first of all because I had too much to do for my dissertation proposal, and then because - horror of horrors - Livejournal has gone and got me addicted to another new fandom. Bandom. And it’s worse XD

First, it was Harry Potter. I found Livejournal after FF.net, and it wasn’t a big deal. Then while reading HP fic about a year or so ago, I stumbled upon a community called “Ship Manifesto” where people write a ‘manifesto’ all about how their favourite pairing in a specific fandom is really canon. With examples, and screenshots, and it’s AWESOME. So I read a few…some HP ones, a Degrassi one, and more that I can’t remember. Then I found a High School Musical one, and there were fanfics recommended and I got ADDICTED. Like, full-on addicted. I’ve got posters and postcards up in my room and they’re split more or less evenly between HP and HSM XD

And last week, it happened again (although there was a false start). I was on Livejournal (Livejournal is going to be the DEATH of me) and I checked my favourite HSM fic community, and there was a link to this other community, and I clicked it and ended up reading a bunch of RPS - Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. The stories were movies rewritten - like, Notting Hill, where Jensen’s the big star and Jared owns a pet store. And two Miss Congeniality rewrites that were simply hilarious. So I read that for a couple days and all was good. Then I went back on to the HSM community and that’s when it happened. There was a link to this other community, and I clicked it, and I’ve been reading it, and it’s RPS and it’s slightly worse because it’s not rewritings of movies, it’s just stories about them XD and it’s a billion times worse because while I can explain away my High School Musical obsession - hello, I’m a girl, I’m allowed to like girly musicals and funny Disney movies - this takes it into preteen, first-crush, almost-stalker territory. Because it’s the Jonas Brothers.

Yes. I have developed an addiction to Jonas Brothers fanfiction. It’s horrific because I absolutely adore it, have memorized the pairing names, have favourite pairings and authors already, and have like 24 of the stories saved on my iPod so I can read them at will.

I know that given my addictive personality I’m probably lucky that all my obsessions at the moment are so harmless, but you know this one is going to involve buying posters and memorabilia, and don’t I already have enough to buy, given that I’ve been eyeing up a Whirlwood wand, robes, a Ravenclaw tie…I do have HSM stuff that people sent me for Christmas/birthday though. Including, randomly, a pair of Troyella socks. XD

Anyway. I’m probably going to write a whole ship list on my LJ now and encourage my f-list to do the same, and that’s kind of awesome and lame at the same time. But I thought you should have an explanation…and a heads-up. Because you know, when I get obsessed, I really get OBSESSED. And that always requires a warning XD
