I just looked through all my memory cards from this summer and OH YEAH, I have like four hours of video or something stupid like that. I don’t know what to upload first etc. so I’m looking for some guidance. Do you want it chronologically? Do you want particular things? Do you want entire shows uploaded? I’ve been really neglecting this blog, first of all because I had too much to do for my dissertation proposal, and then because - horror of horrors - Livejournal has gone and got me addicted to another new fandom. Bandom. And it’s worse XD

First, it was Harry Potter. I found Livejournal after FF.net, and it wasn’t a big deal. Then while reading HP fic about a year or so ago, I stumbled upon a community called “Ship Manifesto” where people write a ‘manifesto’ all about how their favourite pairing in a specific fandom is really canon. With examples, and screenshots, and it’s AWESOME. So I read a few…some HP ones, a Degrassi one, and more that I can’t remember. Then I found a High School Musical one, and there were fanfics recommended and I got ADDICTED. Like, full-on addicted. I’ve got posters and postcards up in my room and they’re split more or less evenly between HP and HSM XD

And last week, it happened again (although there was a false start). I was on Livejournal (Livejournal is going to be the DEATH of me) and I checked my favourite HSM fic community, and there was a link to this other community, and I clicked it and ended up reading a bunch of RPS - Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. The stories were movies rewritten - like, Notting Hill, where Jensen’s the big star and Jared owns a pet store. And two Miss Congeniality rewrites that were simply hilarious. So I read that for a couple days and all was good. Then I went back on to the HSM community and that’s when it happened. There was a link to this other community, and I clicked it, and I’ve been reading it, and it’s RPS and it’s slightly worse because it’s not rewritings of movies, it’s just stories about them XD and it’s a billion times worse because while I can explain away my High School Musical obsession - hello, I’m a girl, I’m allowed to like girly musicals and funny Disney movies - this takes it into preteen, first-crush, almost-stalker territory. Because it’s the Jonas Brothers.

Yes. I have developed an addiction to Jonas Brothers fanfiction. It’s horrific because I absolutely adore it, have memorized the pairing names, have favourite pairings and authors already, and have like 24 of the stories saved on my iPod so I can read them at will.

I know that given my addictive personality I’m probably lucky that all my obsessions at the moment are so harmless, but you know this one is going to involve buying posters and memorabilia, and don’t I already have enough to buy, given that I’ve been eyeing up a Whirlwood wand, robes, a Ravenclaw tie…I do have HSM stuff that people sent me for Christmas/birthday though. Including, randomly, a pair of Troyella socks. XD

Anyway. I’m probably going to write a whole ship list on my LJ now and encourage my f-list to do the same, and that’s kind of awesome and lame at the same time. But I thought you should have an explanation…and a heads-up. Because you know, when I get obsessed, I really get OBSESSED. And that always requires a warning XD

It is no secret that I’m a bit of a loser.

Oh come on, don’t go feigning surprise or anything. Most nights all I do is go online, the only time I ever go out anywhere is to the rare Harry Potter meetups/wizard rock shows (this is not anything to do with putting down HP fans, naturally, I <3 you guys), and I'm currently not only in my third year of a BA degree in Journalism and Sociology, but I am currently (all right, not right this second, but lately and for the next week and a half) working on a dissertation proposal for next year which would see me interview Harry Potter fans in an attempt to explore the social connections and benefits we get from being in the fandom community.

Today though, I believe two separate Twitter monologues can display my loser-ness far easier (and faster) than I can ever explain.

So, I started a blog. Because apparently people are interested in reading about my ’super awesome’ life. Or at least, that’s what they told ME. See how interesting you find the following account of my day.

I was up until 5amish last night, so I slept until 1 today. I woke up to hear my dad telling my mum off. Apparently she finished half-smoking a cigarette, stubbed it out and left it on the PVC windowsill. It wasn’t right out though, and burnt into the plastic. It wasn’t a big thing - he walked in, smelled smoke and realised what it was and sorted it out - but there’s an ugly mark on the windowsill now and she’s sworn never to do it again. It’s too much to hope for that she’ll give up smoking altogether.

Then I spent the day sitting with a borrowed laptop, alternately goofing off on Facebook and Twitter (I @reply spam a lot when I have net access. It’s worse if people are visibly Tweeting, too. I do apologise) and actually doing some dissertation-proposal reading and note-taking. It’s due April 14th and I’m not freaking out YET, but I have to read two books (one involves sections critiquing the other) and I know as the deadline approaches I’ll be totally freaking out and will need some kind of emotional support, or someone to stop me drinking excessive amounts of caffeine, as that will no doubt only make it worse. Can you do that for me, anyone?

Lots of people are doing this Maureen Johnson “Blog Every Day in April” thing, it seems. It’s fun reading people’s blogs - I’m usually online when Christie posts her links to Twitter and FB and her posts are always so informative…dang, the Ravenclawness runs deep!

Anyway so this evening I spent hours choosing a blog layout and it turns out that the one that’s on RIGHT NOW (might not be when you’re reading this, bear that in mind XD) does not show the pages I’ve created, only blog posts. This is annoying. I love this layout. But I guess I’m going to have to find another one It only took me like two DAYS to find this. Ellie thinks I’m being insanely picky XD I’m not even going to attempt to argue.

The title of this blog, by the way, comes from a song of my friend Zoe’s. She released an EP online recently and it’s awesome. The song is called Broken Bird I’ll give you a download link at some point, if I log in to Facebook now I’ll just get distracted and stay up even LATER. And that would be bad.

Anyway, so then I just continued typing up my list of wizard rock. I’m attempting to list every album and song, alphabetically by band (it makes more sense if you actually see it) and it’s…taking forever. I have 27 pages already and I’m only partway through The Remus Lupins, with The Whomping Willows and the prolific Split Seven Ways (Zoe again, but in her primary magical guise) still to come. It may require a few hours’ work yet. But I’ve done all my Myrtles, Parselmouths, Draco and the Malfoys, Harry and the Potters and Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls so for maybe 7-8 hours’ total work I figure I’m not doing so badly. Anyway, not much else to report. I saw Small Soldiers today which was funny, at first I thought the Gorgonites were the bad guys. I’m so judgmental - just because they’re monsters! We should never judge books by their covers.
